About Us

Small shop. Long memory. Better bags.

Tin Bucket Mercantile is a family-run leather goods business on Main Street in Dallas, Georgia. We buy in small runs, test everything ourselves, and sell the bags we would actually carry.

Our Story

It started with a leaky tin bucket

The name comes from a battered tin bucket that sat by the register in the Georgia mercantile where our family traded for three generations. It was the place people went for the honest, practical thing - the tool that worked, the boot that lasted, the bag that held up.

We built Tin Bucket Mercantile around that same idea. In 2017 we started sourcing leather and canvas bags directly, one small run at a time, and selling them at prices that made sense for the people who live here. No seasonal churn, no inflated labels. If a bag did not survive a year of real carrying in our own rotation, we did not sell it.

Today we ship nationwide from 222 Main Street, Dallas, GA 30132, and we still answer the phone ourselves.

Our Design Philosophy

Four principles that decide what makes it into the catalog.

Quiet, not loud

No oversized logos and no gimmicks. A bag should be recognised by its shape and its leather, not by a decal.

Structure with softness

We look for silhouettes that hold their form on a hook but soften against your side - the balance that makes a bag wearable daily.

Pockets that make sense

Where does the phone go? The keys? We test interiors against a real commute before anything goes on the shelf.

Color you can live with

Camel, coffee, espresso, olive and black lead the palette because they go with everything and age gracefully.

Our Team

The people behind the packing tape

We are a small crew of five, plus a rotating cast of family members who show up when a pallet arrives. Between us we have done saddle repair, retail floor management, small-business bookkeeping and a great deal of careful box filling.

  • Buying and quality control - one person, one job: check every strap, zipper and stitch line before it goes on the shelf.
  • Customer care - the same team that answers email answers the phone. Typical reply time is under one business day.
  • Packing and shipping - hand-wrapped in kraft paper with a dust bag where the style includes one.
  • The Journal - written in-house, based on what customers actually ask us about leather, sizing and packing.

What We Value

The commitments we hold ourselves to, in writing.

Say what is true

If something is a synthetic blend, we say so. If a bag runs small, we tell you before you order.

Price without theatre

We keep a small catalog and a modest markup instead of inventing a discount.

Build for years, not seasons

Repairable hardware, replaceable straps and materials that improve with age.

Stand behind the order

Thirty-day returns, honest repairs and real people on the other end when something goes wrong.
